“Around the Meadow” – A Reminiscence Trail

Around the Meadow

“Around the Meadow” Reminiscence Trail is located on the pathway at the Broadmeadow, Enniskillen from Enniskillen Castle to Fermanagh Lakeland Forum.

Around the Meadow provides signs to allow you to think about days gone by and revive memories made in this place, or a place from your past. The trail leads from Enniskillen Castle to The Lakeland Forum along Lough Erne. This reminiscence trail includes photographs, a little history and a little poetry too. With good accessibility and parking and a beautiful surrounding this area of Enniskillen it is proving extremely popular for all ages.

Picture 1. Friendship

Strangers are just friends you haven’t yet met….

The trail comprises a series of  old photographs and accompanying text which can act as a great conversation starter for those using the trail.

One of the negative implications of covid has been the increased feelings of loneliness and isolation. As we now start to get out and about after lockdowns those skills we had in striking up a conversation can often feel stilted and awkward.  With many initiatives to reduce loneliness and isolation including befriending services and chatty benches for older people, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council were keen to produce an innovative approach.

By integrating our beautiful scenery and encouraging people to access the great outdoors, perhaps walk and talk or take a moment to share memories with others it is hoped this initiative will do just this.  Around the Meadow is a project designed to give people meaningful connections through reminiscing which can form an ice-breaker into the opportunity for a further chat.

The trail comprises a series of  old photographs and accompanying text which can act as a great conversation starter for those using the trail.
