Lisanelly Regeneration Group/GK House

Throughout the COVID-19 health pandemic, there have been many examples of our communities responding to the exceptional circumstances to help those in need. Here, Lisanelly Regeneration Group/GK House shares its story.

“The strength of a community is in its ability to help one another in hard times”

Lisanelly Regeneration Group/GK House have worked tirelessly since the beginning of the Covid 19 crisis to meet the needs of the communities of Gortview Close & Killybrack Close in the Strule Ward Area. They were also committed to providing support for the families of the 50+ children who were registered with their Youth Project and live in a wider geographical Omagh urban area. Responses included participating in the development, design and delivery of information leaflets designed for the Cappagh Parish Community Response Team. The group’s Facebook page kept everyone up to date with the community response and who to contact if help was needed with the collection of food or prescriptions. The group reached out across the community to ensure that everyone eligible for Department of Communities food parcels were registered. For those not eligible for the Department of Communities food parcels, the group compiled and delivered hundreds of food parcels with the net widening as the need arose. The soda bread additions to these food banks became legendary!

GK House Youth Project was conscious of the fact that their young people were missing the youth Club activities and companionship it provided, so children and their families were provided with a kit that allowed them to have a bit of fun over the Easter Weekend. Each pack included an Easter Egg and a note reminding everyone to clap for the Key Workers on Thursdays. The Bank Holiday weekend was made extra special for the families of GK House Youth Project participants as twenty-five Resource Packs were delivered. Guaranteed to put a smile on the faces of the recipients, these included games, colouring books, family recipe ideas and other necessities.

*Fermanagh and Omagh District Council was pleased to provide Lisanelly Regeneration Group/GK House with £3,000 of funding support.
