Whirlpool Tumble Dryer Recall

Please be advised that Whirlpool has issued a full product recall of all unmodified tumble dryers from consumers’ home. This follows intervention by OPSS, where OPSS notified Whirlpool of their intention to serve a Recall notice in respect of as many as 800,000 remaining unmodified tumble dryers in use.

Under the recall consumers with an unmodified affected Whirlpool tumble dryer are entitled to a new replacement machine, which will be delivered, installed and the old one removed, at no cost. A refund based on product age or a modification will be available to consumers who do not want to take up the offer of a replacement dryer.

Whirlpool have also agreed to a number of actions which include commitments to: deliver a customer outreach campaign with a wide range of publicity of the product recall from 22 July 2019; guarantee no charges for delivery, installation and removal of machines; improve the identification of and outreach to vulnerable customers; and provide OPSS with timely reporting of progress made in the product recall. Owners of unmodified affected tumble dryers should unplug and contact Whirlpool.

Recall covers all models of vented and condensing tumble dryers produced between 1 April 2004 and 30 September 2015 and sold in the UK under the Hotpoint, Indesit, Creda, Proline and Swan brands with the exception of those which have been modified or replaced in accordance with the agreement between Whirlpool UK Appliances LTS and Peterborough Council of September 2015.

Consumers can contact the Whirlpool Helpline on 0800 151 0905 for more information or visit the Whirlpool website for a full list of affected machines. This list is also available on https://productrecall.campaign.gov.uk.

The Product Recall notice is also available to view online.

Finally, consumers are encouraged to register all new appliances of any type so they can be contacted easily in the event of a safety issue arising, using www.registermyappliance.org.uk.

Hotpoint, Indesit & Creda Tumble Dryer safety information

Fermanagh & Omagh District Council is highlighting the safety advice issued by Whirlpool regarding Hotpoint, Indesit and Creda tumble dryers.  The models affected are the large air vented dryer and the condensing dryer sold under the Hotpoint, Indesit and Creda brand names between April 2004 and October 2015.

In some rare cases, excess fluff can come into contact with the heating element and pose a risk of fire.  Whirlpool is advising customers that they should not use the device until the modifictation has been carried out.

Customers who have any concerns are being asked to check whether their model could be affected by visiting Indesit’s online model checker and you can call the company for further information on 0800 151 0905.
