Uncover natural benefits and beautiful landscapes with Sperrins Walking Programme

Residents of Fermanagh and Omagh have the opportunity to take part in the Sperrins Walking Programme developed and delivered by The Sperrins Partnership and outdoor experts, Far and Wild.

Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly commented:

“The Sperrins Walking Programme has been designed to appeal to a broad range of walkers allowing them to enjoy this beautiful landscape.  As a district we are fortunate to have access to a wide range of walks which benefits our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

Participants will not only enjoy discovering a destination filled with unique experiences, but a great choice of walks ranging from moderate ability to more demanding longer walks, all in small groups, guided by experienced leaders who will help to uncover the stories, history, environment and heritage of this unique landscape”.

The Sperrins Walking Programme and dates are:

Saturday 23 March 2024:

‘On the Pig’s Back’  a Challenging Walk exploring traditional routes of travel on the Mullaghcarn Ridge 12km.  Registration at 9am at Gortin Glens Forest Park (Glenpark Rd, Omagh BT79 7SU)

‘If You Come Out in the Woods today..’ is a Moderate Walk looped walk in Gortin Glen Forest Park with a specialist foraging guide 8km.  Registration at 10am at Gortin Glens Forest Park (Glenpark Rd, Omagh BT79 7SU)

 

Sunday 24 March 2024:

‘Deep Sources’ a Challenging Walk over Dooish Hill and linking to Meenadoan National Nature Reserve exploring the vernacular landscape 10km.  Registration at 9am at Drumquin Community Youth Centre (Drumquin, Omagh BT78 4SD)

‘At the Head of the Glen’ a Moderate Walk exploring upland river geo-ecology between Lough Bradan to Sloughan Glen 8-9km.  Registration at 10am at Drumquin Community Youth Centre (Drumquin, Omagh BT78 4SD)
