Partial walkway closure at Castle Basin Promenade to facilitate infrastructure upgrade works
4th November 2026
A section of the Castle Basin Promenade walkway in Enniskillen, located beside the Fermanagh Lakeland Forum redevelopment site, will be temporarily closed from Monday 09 November to facilitate infrastructure upgrade works.
The temporary closure is expected to remain in place for a number of weeks.
During this period, pedestrian access to Derrychara Pedestrian Bridge and the jetties will remain available from the Shore Road Car Park. Access to Castle Island and the jetties will also remain open from the Enniskillen Castle side. However, there will be no through pedestrian access between Shore Road Car Park and Enniskillen Castle while the works are ongoing.
The Fermanagh Lakeland Forum redevelopment is being delivered by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council. Supported by £20 million of UK Government funding, the project will deliver a state-of-the-art leisure, health and wellbeing hub on the banks of the River Erne.
When complete, the new facility will feature an eight-lane swimming pool, learner pool and splash pad, gym and fitness suite, community wellbeing spaces, a sensory room, soft play facilities, café and a range of outdoor attractions, including a destination play park, pump track, 3G pitch, active waterfront and connected walking and cycling trails. It will also become Ireland’s first Passivhaus-certified leisure centre, setting a new benchmark for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Construction is being carried out by GRAHAM, with the new facility expected to open in summer 2028.
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks the public for their patience and cooperation during this phase of redevelopment works.
