Leitrim County Council, in partnership with Sligo County Council, Cavan County Council, Fermanagh & Omagh District Council, under the auspices of Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and Department for Infrastructure (DfI) are developing the Sligo, Leitrim, Northern Counties, Railway (SLNCR) Greenway.

This Project is to provide a Greenway from Sligo town to Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, passing through Collooney, Ballintogher, Dromahair, Manorhamilton, Glenfarne, Blacklion, Belcoo and Letterbreen on the way.

The development of the SLNCR Greenway will attract domestic and international visitors to come, explore and stay in the region. The surrounding areas contain attractive scenery and an opportunity for users to interact with nature whilst benefitting from outdoor activity. The SLNCR Greenway will link the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland, bringing communities together and promoting cross border tourism.

Arup has been appointed by Leitrim County Council to provide multi-disciplinary engineering and other specialist consultancy services. That is to bring the Project through the planning process in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, and to provide tender documents for construction of the proposed Greenway in compliance with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) Project Management Guideline documents.

The Project is currently at Phase 2 Options Selection. The purpose of Phase 2 is to examine options to determine a Preferred Option. During Phase 2 all reasonable / feasible options are examined and their costs, benefits and effects on the environment are assessed to identify a Preferred Option, if any, that will progress to Phase 3 Design and Environmental Evaluation.

Public consultation forms an important part of advancing the design process towards the development of route options and allows the involvement of the public in identifying key constraints and opportunities.

The Second Public Consultation is planned from 9am on Monday 23 October 2023 to 5pm on Friday 17 November 2023. In the Second Public Consultation, the proposed options will be presented to stakeholders. Project Liaison Officers (PLOs) and the Project Team will be

available to provide information on the proposed options and enable stakeholders to provide feedback on the proposed options, highlighting issues and opportunities.

This consultation is being held online through our project website, www.slncr-greenway.com which contains all the information that will be displayed at the in-person public consultation events. This includes an interactive map which will display the study area, the Phase 1 constraints and the proposed options. The Project Website also contains a FAQs tab and a feedback page for the submission of comments or queries.
