Fermanagh and Omagh Local Economic Partnership launches Action Plan to drive economic growth
15th October 2026
Fermanagh and Omagh Local Economic Partnership (LEP) has launched an Action Plan setting out a clear roadmap to support job creation, economic growth and business development in the district.
The Action Plan 2025-2028 was launched at Enniskillen Castle on Wednesday 14 October, and details how a £4.5 million funding award from the Department for the Economy’s (DfE) Regional Balance Fund will be used to support economic growth within the district.
The key aims of the Action Plan include increasing the number of good jobs in the district, raising productivity, promoting regional balance and supporting decarbonisation.
Fermanagh and Omagh LEP brings together representatives from the business, education and public sectors, as well as local economic development and enterprise agencies, to develop initiatives that will help address local economic challenges, create jobs, support businesses and enable a greener and more prosperous economy across the district.
Welcoming the Action Plan, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Debbie Coyle, said: “The launch of the Fermanagh and Omagh LEP Action Plan 2025–2028 marks an important step in our shared ambition to strengthen the local economy and create greater opportunities for people and businesses across the district.
“Through this £4.5 million investment, we have an opportunity to support businesses to grow and innovate, attract new investment, create good jobs and develop the skills and infrastructure needed for a resilient economy.
“The Action Plan also recognises the importance of sustainability and decarbonisation in shaping our future economy, and I look forward to seeing the impact of this investment and the positive difference it will make for our businesses, communities and people in the time ahead.”
Minister for the Economy, Dr Caoimhe Archibald, said: “I welcome the launch of the Fermanagh and Omagh Local Economic Partnership Action Plan, which sets out a clear, locally led ambition for sustainable economic growth.
“By bringing together local government, businesses, education providers and community partners, the plan will help ensure that investment and support are focused on the area’s particular strengths and needs.
“This collaborative approach will create new opportunities, strengthen enterprise and skills, and support a more resilient and prosperous local economy across Fermanagh and Omagh.”
Ethna McNamee, Head of Regional Business for the Western region at Invest NI, said: “Fermanagh and Omagh has a strong track record of entrepreneurship and business ambition, and this Action Plan sets out a clear pathway to build on those strengths.
“Through targeted support for business growth, innovation, technology adoption and investment attraction, the plan will help local businesses improve productivity, seize new opportunities and contribute to sustainable economic growth across the district.”
The Action Plan includes a range of measures to support business growth, attract investment and strengthen the local economy. A new business growth programme will provide capital grants of up to £40,000, alongside mentoring and masterclasses, to help micro and small businesses invest in new equipment, digital technologies and automation.
The Plan will also support the development of a flagship event showcasing the district’s culture, heritage and natural assets. Tourism and hospitality businesses will be provided with capital investment to develop high-quality visitor experiences that enable visitors to connect with the place, people, culture and environment. These initiatives will help attract visitors, extend the tourism season and support local businesses.
In addition, efforts will focus on strengthening the district’s investment proposition and building connections with the Fermanagh and Omagh diaspora, including individuals, businesses and networks with links to the area.
The Action Plan also includes measures to support innovation, entrepreneurship and skills development. A new Tech Founder Programme will support early-stage and growing technology businesses, while initiatives focused on the creative and digital economy will help retain talented graduates and develop a skilled workforce for the future.
Opportunities to increase the availability of business accommodation across the district will also be explored, alongside targeted support for Omagh town centre.
Supporting a greener economy is another key priority, with plans to help businesses and social enterprises work together to reduce their energy costs, lower emissions and become more sustainable.
