Fermanagh and Omagh Schools Cross Country Championships 2025
17th June 2025

The Fermanagh and Omagh Primary School Cross Country Championships 2025 recently concluded at the Bawnacre Centre, Irvinestown, marking the largest event in its history. Organised by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, this year’s Championships took place over five days – on the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 11th of June – with exciting and competitive races throughout. More than 1,800 pupils from 43 schools took part, making it the highest number of participants since the event began.
Speaking about the record-breaking year, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Barry McElduff, said:
“The Primary School Cross Country Championships continue to go from strength to strength. I am delighted to see this competition reach new heights in 2025. With over 1,800 pupils from 43 schools participating, this year’s event has truly set a new benchmark.
What struck me personally was the happiness and excitement of everyone taking part. It was truly infectious. I joined in myself at one point.
This initiative is an excellent way to inspire our children and young people to adopt healthy and active lifestyles. It gives them the opportunity to take part in a large-scale, structured sporting event, while also having real fun.
I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to every child who competed – you should be incredibly proud. I also wish to thank all the participating schools for their continued support and encouragement in promoting physical activity and wellbeing among our young people.”
