On Thursday 11 April 2024, Enniskillen Castle and Strule Arts Centre, Omagh, will be illuminated in green to mark World Parkinson’s Day. World Parkinson’s day is celebrated on 11 April each year since 1980 and aims to raise awareness of the reality of living with Parkinson’s Disease. When Dutch horticulturist, Van der Wereld, decided to honour Dr James Parkinson, the first person to describe Parkinson’s Disease, he named a tulip after him. The colour green resembles this tulip.

Both buildings will be illuminated in blue on Saturday 13 April 2024 to mark Sarcoidosis Awareness Month. Sarcoidosis is a rare disease, affecting around 1 in 10,000 people in the UK and SarcoidosisUK works to support anyone affected by the disease by providing information and support, funding research into a cure and raising awareness.

On Thursday 18 April 2024, the Strule Arts Centre, Omagh, will be lit up purple to mark the 30th anniversary of Home-Start Omagh District. Home-Start Omagh District is a family support charity that provides home-visiting volunteer support, through its network of trained community volunteers, helping families with young children in challenging situations.
