£300k improvement works completed at Foundry Lane
12th May 2025

A £300,000 Environmental Improvement Scheme to improve accessibility, safety and the overall appearance at Foundry Lane, Omagh, is now complete.
The Environmental Improvement Scheme, which aligns to the key actions of the Omagh Place Shaping Plan by improving connectivity and accessibility and strengthening town centre linkages through the development of more liveable and welcoming laneways, was funded by the Department for Communities and supported by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.
Improvements included new paving, upgraded lighting, improved surface water drainage and enhanced signage. Enhancements also featured historical photographs of Omagh, adding a touch of local character and heritage to the area.
Prior to the project, Foundry Lane suffered from uneven surfaces and poor accessibility. In response, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council engaged with disability groups to ensure level access to all shopfronts, helping make the town centre more inclusive. The project also included shopfront improvements, part-funded by the Department for Communities and contributions from property owners.
Environmental improvement works were undertaken by contractor FP McCann Ltd and the shop front and archway improvement works were completed by Devity contract services.
Speaking about the scheme Communities Minister Gordon Lyons, said:
“I am pleased that my department has been able to fund this Environmental Improvement scheme in the centre of Omagh. This investment has transformed one of the key access points from the car parks to the town centre whilst providing a safe inclusive space for all.
“My department is committed to working in partnership with councils to deliver regeneration schemes that have a real and meaningful impact on our towns.”
Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor John McClaughry, said:
“I welcome the completion of works at Foundry Lane in Omagh. As a key pedestrian route connecting a number of car parks in Omagh to the town centre, Foundry Lane is a busy and important area. These improvements have helped make it safer, more welcoming, and accessible for all. Enhancing connections to the town centre is vital to ensuring our towns remain vibrant and appealing.
“The Council is committed to working in partnership to make our district a great place to live, work, visit and invest in. I would like to thank the Department for Communities for its investment in the area, local businesses and the public for their patience during the environmental improvement works, and the contractor for delivering the works to a high standard with minimal disruption.”
