Changing Places Facilities
Changing Places toilets are designed for people who cannot use standard accessible toilets. Typically, standard accessible toilets have been designed to facilitate access by a standard wheelchair, but some cannot accommodate a powered wheelchair, or wheelchairs fitted with additional head or leg supports. In standard accessible toilets there is also no bench or space for a child or adult who needs changed, and if there is space it is on the floor of the bathroom which is both unhygienic and undignified.
Changing Places offer a solution. These are larger facilities that have the right equipment, including a large changing bench and a hoist, designed to support adults who need assistance to use the toilet or change continence pads.
Currently, there are Changing Places within the following Council facilities:
