Only flush three things down our sewers paper, poo and pee, the 3P’s

Sewerage systems are designed to carry only liquids, blockages will occur when we flush inappropriate materials such as baby wipes, sanitary towels and cotton buds into the system.

• Wipes can stick to the inner wall of the pipe or at a join, as other materials flow through, they gather and form a plug or blockage
• The presence of rags disrupts the smooth flow of the sewage and slows it down. The loss of speed prevents self-cleansing, allowing solids to build-up and form a blockage

Wipes are packaged as bio-degradable, but their decay is over a very long period of time

Toilet roll is different as it disintegrates rapidly after flushing.
