What is the purpose of a Re-rating Inspection?

Following a hygiene inspection of your premises by an Environmental Health Officer, you will be told in writing, either at the time or within 14 days (this includes weekends and public holidays), what your food hygiene rating is.  If you wish to improve on the rating received, you can request a Re-rating Inspection at any time, provided that you have paid the £150 cost of the Re-rating Inspection.

The Environmental Health Officer will give you a ‘new’ food hygiene rating based on the level of compliance that is found at the time of the re-visit.  You should be aware that your rating could go up, down or remain the same.

How do I request a Re-rating Inspection?

To make a request for a re-visit you should download and complete the standard Request for Re-rating Inspection Form and send, along with the appropriate fee, to the Environmental Health Officer who completed your hygiene inspection.  You will be given their contact details when you are notified about your rating.

The Re-rating Inspection will take place within 3 months of your request and will usually be made without prior notification.

There is no limit on the number of Re-rating Inspections that you can request.
