Council illuminates buildings on various dates in September

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council will illuminate Enniskillen Castle and Strule Arts Centre, Omagh on various dates throughout the month of September. 

On Friday 1 September 2023, both buildings will be illuminated red to mark the start of Blood Cancer Awareness Month which aims to raise awareness and understanding of blood cancers.   

On Saturday 2 September 2023, both buildings will be illuminated teal to mark World Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Day and PCOS Awareness Month. The aim of PCOS Awareness Month is to help improve the lives of those affected by PCOS and to help them to overcome their symptoms as well as prevent and reduce their risks for life-threatening related conditions.  

Both buildings will then be illuminated green on Friday 15 September 2023 for International Myotonic Dystrophy Awareness Day. The day aims to raise awareness of myotonic dystrophy, which is the most common form of adult muscular dystrophy.  

Monday 18 September marks the start of Good Relations Week 2023.  Good Relations Week 2023, coordinated by the Community Relations Council, aims to deliver a positive message of togetherness as it celebrates peace-building and cultural diversity in an effort to eradicate sectarianism, racism and inequality across Northern Ireland. Both Enniskillen Castle and Strule Arts Centre, will be illuminated yellow on September 18 to mark the start of the Week.  

On Thursday 21 September 2023, Enniskillen Castle and Strule Arts Centre will be illuminated purple to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s on World Alzheimer’s Day. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia.  

On Sunday 24 September 2023, Enniskillen Castle and Strule Arts Centre will be illuminated pink to raise awareness of Organ Donation Week. This year, the organisers of Organ Donation Week aim to get 25,000 more people to register to become organ donors.  

Tuesday 26 September 2023 marks the start of Leukodystrophy Awareness Month. The annual event is a time for everyone affected by Leukodystrophy to come together and raise awareness of this genetic disorder that primarily affects the central nervous system white matter. Both Enniskillen Castle and Strule Arts Centre, Omagh will be illuminated blue.
