Baby Loss & Stillbirth Registration

Stillbirth Registration

Registering the stillbirth of a child is no doubt the farthest thing from a grieving parent’s mind. There are family members who can help and while you must register a stillbirth by law, you do have one year from the date of the stillbirth to complete the registration.

If the Still-Birth occurred in Northern Ireland, it can be registered in any District Registration Office within Northern Ireland. You will receive a free still birth certificate at the time of registration.

How to register

Please contact the registration office by phone 028 82256 212 or 028 6634 2428 or email registrar@fermanaghomagh.com

  • The still-birth registration can only be completed once the medical still-birth certificate has been received.  The registration office will receive this electronically.
  • A still-birth registration form will need to be completed.
  • There is no need to attend the office in person.

Please note that a registration cannot be easily changed once completed.

Baby Loss Certificate Scheme

A baby loss certificate scheme is now available in Northern Ireland. The scheme allows people who have experienced the loss of a baby in early pregnancy to apply for a certificate recognising their loss. It applies to baby losses before the end of week 24 of pregnancy, or before week 28 for losses before 1992.
