New Pay & Display machines – Frequently Asked Questions

Why are new Pay and Display machines being installed in 13 off-street carparks operated by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council?

The new Pay and Display machines are replacing the units that have been in operation for 20 years and have reached the end of their operational lifespan.

What is the difference between the new Pay & Display machines and the old units?

The new Pay & Display machines increase the available payment options for parking at 13 Council operated off-street car parks from two to three, giving motorists greater flexibility and convenience.

Drivers can now choose to pay by cash, via RingGo or can take advantage of the new contactless card payment option directly at the machine.

The new machines require customers to enter their vehicle registration number when making a payment. A paper ticket to display on your dashboard is no longer needed, as Traffic Attendants will confirm payment through their handheld devices and your vehicle registration number. This process works in the same way that payments made via RingGo are currently verified.

By removing the need for non-recyclable paper tickets and using solar powered machines, the new system helps to reduce carbon emissions and supports the local environment.

How do I use the new Pay & Display machines?

The new machines guide users through a simple step-by-step process onscreen:

  • Enter your vehicle registration
  • Confirm using the green button
  • Pay with coins or select parking time required using the + / – buttons for card payments
  • Tap your card to pay (no PIN required) or insert coins for payment
  • You do not need to display a ticket on your dashboard – if you would like a receipt press the green button.

Why do I have to enter my vehicle registration number when paying for my parking using a new Pay & Display machine?

The new Pay & Display machines require the input of a vehicle registration number to allow for ticketless parking, eliminating the need for previously used non-recyclable pay and display tickets. Traffic Attendants will confirm payment for parking through their handheld devices. This process works in the same way that parking payments made via RingGo are currently verified.

Do I need to display a parking ticket on my dashboard to show proof of payment?

No, there is no need to display a paper ticket on your dashboard. Entering your vehicle registration number when paying for parking allows Traffic Attendants to confirm payment of parking through their handheld devices. This process works in the same way that parking payments made via RingGo are currently verified.

You can however request a recyclable printed receipt for payment when using one of the new machines if required.

Is it possible to give my parking receipt to someone else to use if I haven’t used all of the time paid for?

No. Parking tickets have always been non-transferable in line with the notice printed at the bottom of all parking tickets issued over previous years.

What happens if I enter the wrong registration number while making my payment?

You can cancel a transaction before completing it by pressing the red button.

You should ensure that you enter the correct vehicle registration number at the time of payment as this is used by the Traffic Attendants to validate parking payment. Failure to enter your vehicle registration number correctly may result in a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).

Do the new Pay & Display machines accept cash and card payments?

Yes. The machines accept Sterling and Euro cash (coin only) payments as well as contactless card payments.

What is my vehicle registration number used for when I enter it on the Pay & Display machine?

Your vehicle registration number links to the handheld device of the Traffic Attendant on duty to verify payment.  In line with existing practice, your vehicle registration number will be used for the issuing of a Penalty Charge Notice for failure to obey parking restrictions in Council operated off-street car parks.

How is the Council making people aware of these changes?

Additional signage will be displayed at the new Pay & Display machines. Information will also be shared on the Council’s social media channels and through local press.

Are all 13 Council Pay & Display car parks now operating with vehicle registration linked Pay & Display Machines?

All 13 Council Pay & Display car parks will operate under this new system.
