Motion: Ongoing genocide in Gaza

Policy and Resources Committee - 11th March 2026

This council notes with grave concern the ongoing genocide in Gaza, against innocent Palestinians, by the apartheid state of Israel.

This council further notes that it would be unthinkable for the FAI to fulfil UEFA Nations League Fixtures (Home & Away) against Israel whilst they continue their genocide in Gaza and openly flout international law in the West Bank.

The FAI needs to do the right thing and boycott these fixtures and send a powerful message on the international stage.

This motion comes as elected representatives in this district have been inundated with messages from concerned residents and from the Palestinian diaspora who call this place home.

We have also heard calls from Irish Football supporters, former players and coaches from both FAI & IFA clubs who live and coach in this council area.

We propose that this council will write to the Football Association of Ireland (CEO) encouraging them to boycott these fixtures.

This council affirms that sport must uphold human rights and international law and that taking a principled stance in the face of widespread human suffering matters.
