Talk by Cathy Moore

An astonishing collection of almost 1000 wooden objects was found at Drumclay. Ranging from everyday tools to personal items and fine tableware, the objects tell the story of life on a Fermanagh crannog and the skilled crafters who lived and worked there.

Cathy Moore will talk about some of the most interesting and important finds, discussing how they were made, used, sometimes repaired and eventually discarded.

Cathy Moore is a renowned specialist in the archaeology of wetlands and the study of ancient woodworking and wooden artefacts. She was Assistant Director during the excavation of Drumclay Crannog in 2012-2013.

This talk is organised to complement our current exhibition, “Living at Drumclay: A Glimpse of Life on a Fermanagh Crannog” running at Enniskillen Castle until 10 October 2026.
