The Cuilcagh Camino takes place on Saturday 8 August 2026 and offers a self‑guided walking experience through the lesser‑known landscapes of East Cuilcagh.
Three routes are available: Long (approx. 30km), Medium (approx. 25km) and Short (approx. 16km). All routes start and finish at St Mary’s Hall, Swanlinbar, where registration will take place. Registration times are as follows: Long Route 7am – 8.am, Medium Route 8.00–8.30am, Short Route 8.30–9.30am. Free parking is available nearby.
Route maps, directional signage and stewards will be provided. The Long and Medium routes traverse the foothills of Benbeg and the lower plateau of Cuilcagh Mountain, offering views of several archaeological sites that have been recently discovered or re‑interpreted. The Short Route follows the foothills of Cuilcagh Mountain with breath‑taking scenery throughout. None of the routes link to the Stairway to Heaven.
Terrain includes tarred by‑roads, gravel tracks, grassy trails and open boggy mountain ground. Weather conditions can change quickly and the ground may be uneven or slippery. Proper hiking boots, rain gear and water are compulsory. Spare layers, snacks and sweets are strongly advised. Refreshments and toilet facilities will be available at appropriate intervals.
The entry fee is €60 (excluding booking fee) and includes a route map, refreshments, hot food at the finish and a commemorative Cuilcagh Camino T‑shirt. The event is organised by Cuilcagh Ramblers and local volunteers, with proceeds going to local causes and charities.
Participants must have a good level of fitness and previous long‑distance hiking experience.
Over 18s only. No dogs permitted.
