The Railways Return to the Strule Arts Centre
29th April 2026
The railways returned to the Strule Arts Centre in a new pop-up exhibition ‘Railways That Shaped Tyrone’. Visitors will take in the wonder of rail and explore a remarkable collection of original artefacts that formed part of Tyrone’s rich railway history.
This is largest collection of railway memorabilia in Tyrone, including uniforms, signalling instruments, signs, lamps, tableware, timetables, tickets and historic photographs, each telling its own story of a bygone era.
This special exhibition is presented in collaboration with Selwyn Johnston and the team at Headhunters Barber Shop & Railway Museum and has been developed with the support of railway enthusiast and author Tony McGartland. We gratefully acknowledge the support and contribution of both Tony and the Headhunters team in bringing this unique experience to life.
Audiences of all ages are encouraged to visit, reflect and immerse themselves in the stories of Tyrone’s railway past, brought vividly to life in this captivating rooftop exhibition.
The Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council Cllr Barry McElduff added;
“I was proud to open the exhibition ‘Railways That Shaped Tyrone’ at the Strule Arts Centre in Omagh. This new pop-up exhibition runs until August and offers a unique and an immersive insight into our rail heritage. My sincere thanks to Headhunters Barber Shop & Railway Museum and to Tony McGartland for their outstanding contributions in bringing Tyrone’s rich railway history to life for all to enjoy, both residents and visitors alike.
Tony McGartland, railway enthusiast and author added:
“This exhibition, which has been so well supported by FODC and Headhunters Museum Enniskillen, informs the younger generation of what our rich railway history is all about and brings back happy memories for those who grew up in that era.”
