Public Invited to Community Engagement Event on Plans for New Community Hub in Newtownbutler
11th May 2026
Residents are being invited to have their say on exciting proposals for a new Community Hub in Newtownbutler, designed to bring people together, improve access to services, and create a welcoming shared space for all.
The proposed Community Hub, located on the site of the former PSNI station, forms part of the Rural Economic & Social Transformation And Resilience Transition Together (RESTART) cross-border initiative. The project is supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
RESTART will address social inclusion, rural regeneration and community cohesion through a blend of capital investment and community-led programmes across the rural communities of Belturbet, Clones and Newtownbutler—areas that have experienced the long-term impacts of historical conflict, economic decline and social fragmentation.
Responding directly to community feedback, the Newtownbutler Community Hub will include space for a community gym, studio space, and workspace units. The Hub will operate as a community asset and will be managed as a social enterprise, ensuring long-term local benefit.
The drop in engagement event will provide an opportunity for the public to view initial plans, speak directly with the project team, and share feedback that will help shape the future of the Hub.
Event Details:
Date: Monday 18 May 2026
Time: 3.30 pm to 7 pm
Location: Newtownbutler Community Centre
Attendees will be able to explore the vision for the Hub, meet the project team, and contribute ideas to ensure the facility meets the needs of the community. Feedback gathered during the consultation will play a key role in refining the proposals before they move forward.
Cllr Barry McElduff, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, said:
“This Community Hub will reflect the needs and aspirations of local people.
The consultation event itself is a chance for everyone to get involved, share their views, and help shape a space that will benefit the whole community for years to come.
All members of the community are encouraged to attend and take part in this important conversation.”
