Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has announced the opening of its Strategic Capital Projects Grant Programme for 2026/2027, with £1 million in funding available to support community and voluntary organisations across the district.
The programme aims to invest in both rural and urban areas, enabling local community/voluntary organisations to enhance existing facilities or deliver new projects that address unmet community needs.
The Council has highlighted the strong impact of last year’s programme, which saw significant investment in local groups across the district. In 2025/2026, funding supported a wide range of projects promoting health, wellbeing, accessibility and community participation.
The £300,000 Sustainability & Community Project at Omagh Lawn Tennis Club is delivering major upgrades including covered tennis and padel courts, a pickleball court, solar panels and improved accessibility features.
Seven organisations received £100,000 awards to deliver transformative community infrastructure projects. These included:
  • St Mary’s Maguiresbridge GFC, delivering an accessible community walkway to promote health and social inclusion.
  • St. Molaise GFC, Irvinestown, creating walking trails, a community event space, a coffee hub and a multi-use games area.
  • Teemore Shamrocks, constructing a full-size indoor 4G multi-sport facility to improve year-round access in a rural area.
  • Tattyreagh GAA Club, developing a floodlit all-weather pitch for shared community use.
  • Éire Óg An Charraig Mhór, Carrickmore, establishing an inclusive, sustainable gym, meeting space and sensory trail.
  • Beragh Swifts Football Club, to install energy-efficient floodlighting, supporting extended use and future development of a community sports hub.
Building on this success, the 2026/2027 programme will again offer funding across two categories:
  • Category 1 – Larger Strategic Projects: Grants of up to £300,000, with one project to be funded. Applicants must demonstrate clear benefits across a District Electoral Area (DEA) or multiple DEAs.
  • Category 2 – Medium Capital Projects: Grants of up to £100,000, with a minimum of seven awards distributed equitably across the district.
Organisations applying must attend a mandatory information workshop and ensure that all statutory approvals and full match funding are in place at the time of application.
Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Barry McElduff, encouraged groups to take advantage of the opportunity:
“Last year’s programme is delivering real, tangible benefits for communities right across our district, supporting clubs and organisations to enhance facilities and create inclusive spaces for people of all ages.
I would strongly urge any eligible organisation with a project in mind to come forward and apply. This is a significant funding opportunity and one that groups should not miss.”
The application process opened online on Monday 13 April 2026, with full details and guidance available on the Council’s website.
The deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 15 May 2026. Late submissions will not be accepted.
