Get ready to celebrate the 10th anniversary of FEARmanagh, the Fermanagh Endurance Adventure Race, or simply FEAR on Saturday 30th September.

In 2013, FEARmanagh was born as a ‘homegrown’ adventure race, a vibrant tribute to the rugged beauty of west Fermanagh’s natural landscapes. Little did the Derrygonnelly community know that this daring endeavour would grow to become a thrilling spectacle that captivates hearts, minds, and the spirit of adventure.

This heart-pounding event, a fusion of trail running, cycling, and kayaking, spans a formidable course of 74 kilometers. For those seeking a shorter, yet equally exhilarating challenge, the ‘short’ course spans an electrifying 35 kilometers.

None of this would be possible without the incredible support of the local community, particularly the unwavering dedication of the Derrygonnelly & District Community Partnership and the Derrygonnelly Community Centre.

James Graydon-Rhodes, from Derrygonnelly & District Community Partnership, shared his excitement: “We are incredibly fortunate to host an event of this calibre. We eagerly await the arrival of the 350 participants and their families this September. Our volunteers are already rallying, but we extend an open invitation to anyone who wishes to join and help with the event.”

Jackie Doogan from Derrygonnelly Community Centre said: “We have been the proud host of this remarkable event since its inception, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome FEAR back. It is a great day for the village with an influx of people and a great buzz.

Councillor Ann-Marie Donnelly, Vice Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, said: “Empowering rural communities through health, fitness, and wellbeing is a cause close to my heart. FEARmanagh embodies our commitment to supporting rural communities and the dedication shown is a testament to the region’s spirit with nearly 80 volunteers who will make it an unforgettable event.”

Martina O’Neill from Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark said, ‘The challenging race route brings colour and vibrancy to many Geopark sites like the hills of Knockmore, Big Dog Forest, the spectacular Lough Navar viewpoint and cliff path, as well as Magho shore and Garrison village. This is a fantastic opportunity for people from near and far to experience the beauty and significance of the Geopark’.

This event is funded by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council and supported by Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark.
