Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is currently consulting on the provision of play park facilities in Enniskillen as part of its ambitious Play Park Strategy 2021-2030.  The consultation will remain open until Thursday 06 July 2023.

The purpose of the consultation is to obtain the views of residents and those using the play parks in the Enniskillen area to assist in decision making on future provision.

There are currently 15 play parks in Enniskillen of which 14 have been identified for upgrade and 1 has been identified to be transformed into a community space.

Play is an important aspect of a child’s development, therefore, it is important to develop a range of play opportunities offering children and their families a variety of enriching experiences.  The provision of open green spaces is also important to encourage creative play and opportunities to connect with nature.

Speaking about the consultation, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly, said:

“The delivery of the Council’s Play Park Strategy throughout the District is an important part of the Council’s current capital programme and I am delighted that we are now in Year 3 of its implementation.

The works in Enniskillen will be building on the works completed to date across the District in Maguiresbridge, Garrison, Loughmacrory, Fintona and Lisnarick to name but a few.

Play parks and open spaces are important as they promote positive mental and physical health and wellbeing in children and young people.  They also provide a safe space where they can get outdoors together and develop their social, emotional, creative and physical skills.

I would encourage everyone to respond to the consultation to share your views on the future play park provision in Enniskillen with the Council.”

The consultation is available online on the Council website, www.fermanaghomagh.com, and a public meeting will also take place on Tuesday 20 June 2023 at 8pm in Fermanagh Lakeland Forum.
