The Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Barry McElduff, has commissioned a new piece of artwork by Omagh-based Fine Art Photographer Tony Moore for inclusion in the Council’s Civic Art Collection.

The framed digital artwork holds deep personal significance for the Chair, having been inspired by his late mother, Sheila (née McGurk). Councillor McElduff worked closely with Tony Moore to create a unique piece depicting a woman from the mid to late 1950s era, accompanied by wording reflecting his mother’s life and her love of music. The artwork also features an image of the late Brian Coll, one of the musical artists his mother enjoyed listening to.

Speaking about the commission, Councillor McElduff said:

“The inspiration behind this piece comes from my late mother, Sheila (née McGurk), who found great solace in the music of her time. My Mother loved listening to Brian Coll, Frankie McBride and many other musical greats such as Mario Lanza and Jim Reeves on her record player.

Although based on my Mother, this art piece will be very relatable to many. It is both specific and universal in that sense.

Aware of her mortality, my Mother once asked me, “Will youse even remember me?” By dedicating this to her, I think I am answering that question in the affirmative.

I would like to thank Tony Moore for his professionalism and creativity in bringing this piece beautifully to life.”

Tony Moore is widely recognised for his high-quality acrylic wall art, which transforms spaces into striking, cinematic visual statements designed to leave a lasting impression.

The artwork will be displayed as part of the Council’s Civic Art Collection at the Strule Arts Centre, Omagh.

The Civic Art Collection provides each Council Chair with the opportunity to support local artists while marking their term of office.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to promoting the arts, and the collection plays an important role in supporting both established and emerging creative talent across the district.
