Following the success of its inaugural event last year, Burren Bites: A Taste of Time returned to Cavan Burren Park on Sunday, 7 June 2026, welcoming guests once again to an immersive journey through the landscapes, stories, and flavours of Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark.

Despite the very best efforts of the rain, this year’s event attracted a capacity audience, cementing Burren Bites as a standout experience within the region’s tourism and food calendar. Set within one of Ireland’s most remarkable prehistoric landscapes, the event continued to celebrate the powerful connection between people, place and plate.

Guests took part in a guided walking food trail, enjoying a six-course tasting experience expertly curated by award-winning chef John Roche of Tully Mill Restaurant. Each dish drew inspiration from the natural surroundings and showcased the exceptional quality of produce from more than 20 local food and drink producers across Cavan and Fermanagh.

Multiple tours throughout the day ensured an intimate and engaging experience, with each group led by knowledgeable Geopark Ambassadors, who brought the landscape to life through stories of its geological and archaeological significance. The gentle presence of live and local music once again enhanced the atmosphere, grounding visitors in the rich cultural heritage of the region.

Councillor John Paul Feeley, Chair of the Geopark Committee, welcomed the continued success of the event:

“It is fantastic to see Burren Bites return even stronger in its second year. The event demonstrates the power of collaboration across our Geopark community, from local producers and partners to our dedicated volunteers and Ambassadors. It has quickly become a flagship experience that showcases the very best of our region.”

Councillor Anthony Feely, Vice Chair of the Geopark Committee, highlighted the importance of partnerships:

“Burren Bites continues to showcase the strength of collaboration across the Geopark area. The event provides an excellent platform to highlight our vibrant local food networks, supported by Created in Cavan and Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, and to further promote the Geopark food story.”

Dermot Gallagher from Created in Cavan reflected on the ongoing partnership:

“The return of Burren Bites highlights the continued strength of collaboration between producers in Cavan and Fermanagh. It’s inspiring to see the event grow year-on-year, with such passion for local food, quality, and sustainability. Once again, the menu created by John Roche truly showcased the very best of what our region has to offer.”

Now firmly established as a signature event, Burren Bites represents a key milestone in the Geopark’s expanding programme of destination experiences. By blending immersive tourism with authentic local flavour, it continues to attract visitors while celebrating the unique food, heritage, and landscape of Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark.

With another highly successful event delivered and overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees, Burren Bites looks set to remain a highlight of the summer calendar for years to come.
