Ulster Scots- Lisbellaw PS Reivers Festival
Primary 7 pupils from Lisbellaw Primary School were delighted to spend a morning in the Townhall with the Council Chair Cllr John McClaughry and Cllr Robinson to celebrate their win at the Hawick Border Reivers Festival, Scotland. Supported by the Ulster Scots Agency the school was delighted to win the competition bringing home the elusive Andy Norman trophy for the third time. The invitation from the Chair was in recognition of this achievement and an opportunity for pupils to meet Elected Members.
During their visit pupils took a seat in the Council chamber and asked some challenging questions on topics including rural transport, recreational provision and Council initiatives to support Ulster Scots demonstrating their interest and enthusiasm for a wide range of topics. An opportunity to wear the Chair’s chain of office was very popular and may well have sparked a new generation of local politicians.
With excellent refreshments provided by Lorraine; pupils and teachers were delighted by the hospitality and hope that they can make it four in a row next year.
