Vice Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council hosts Strathroy Harps U10 Cup Winning Team
27th October 2026
Vice Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Stephen McCann, recently welcomed Strathroy Harps U10 Team and their Coaches to The Grange, Omagh to celebrate to their success in the Under 10 section of the recent Foyle Cup competition.
Speaking at the welcome the Vice Chair said,
‘Good evening everyone, as Vice Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, it is a pleasure to welcome you all to the Grange this evening.
I would like to extend a very warm welcome to the players, coaches, and supporters of Strathroy Harps Football Club, who have joined us for this special reception to celebrate the remarkable achievement of this Cup winning team, in the Under 10 section of the Foyle Cup competition.
Tonight is an opportunity to recognise not only a trophy-winning success, but also the commitment, teamwork and determination that made it possible.
The Foyle Cup is one of the largest and most respected youth football tournaments on these islands, attracting teams from right across Ireland. To emerge as winners from a field of 120 teams is an outstanding accomplishment and one that every player, coach and family member should be immensely proud of.
What makes this achievement even more special is the journey behind it. This group of young players has been together for four years, learning, developing and growing as a team. The squad brings together boys from Omagh, Mountfield, Greencastle, Drumquin and Strabane, demonstrating how sport can connect communities and create lasting friendships.
Success in sport is never achieved by talent alone. It comes through dedication, discipline and the willingness to work hard week after week. It is clear that these young players embody those qualities.
I would also like to acknowledge the role played by the coaching team of Tony Quinn, Paul Kelly and Ryan O’Sullivan. As coaches, volunteers and parents, they have invested a huge amount of time and energy into supporting these young people. Their leadership, encouragement and commitment have helped create an environment where players can develop both on and off the pitch.
Strathroy Harps, since its foundation in 2002, has made an important contribution to football in this area and, more importantly, to the lives of countless young people. Clubs such as this provide opportunities for participation, personal development, friendship and community spirit, and they deserve our thanks and support.
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council recognises the important role that sport plays in the health, wellbeing and development of our young people. We are proud to support initiatives and clubs that encourage participation, build confidence and help young people reach their potential.
To every member of the Strathroy Harps 2016 squad, congratulations on an incredible achievement. You have represented your club, your families and your community with pride, and you should all be very proud of what you have accomplished.
I wish you every success for the future and look forward to following your progress in the years ahead. Thank you.’
