Over 100 people from across the community and voluntary sector, local traders and residents gathered on 24 February 2026 for a community conversation focused on Omagh’s future challenges and opportunities.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council representatives were joined on the evening by colleagues from a wide variety of organisations including, FOCUS, Enniskillen BID, the Department for Infrastructure, Invest NI and the Department for Communities.

The event provided an open and constructive platform for discussion, with participants sharing informed, honest and forward-looking contributions on how Omagh can continue to develop as a vibrant and thriving town.

Chairing the event, Councillor Barry McElduff, said,

“The community conversation on Omagh’s future challenges and opportunities was productive and full of valuable insight. I was pleased to host and chair the event, and I want to thank everyone who attended for their engagement and honest reflections.

Continued partnership working and collaboration is vital for Omagh’s future growth, and I was pleased that several statutory agencies and government departments were also in attendance.”

The Chair confirmed a commitment to return to stakeholders with agreed actions and next steps, and to reconvene the group at a follow-up meeting in early May.

“We will reflect on the various contributions and engage with all relevant agencies to seek their views as to how we best progress the next phase of this important work. A follow-up event will take place in early May, and the people’s voice will remain central to shaping a vibrant and thriving Omagh.”

The Council thanked all attendees and panellists for contributing to what was described as an informative and inspiring evening of constructive dialogue.
