5th February 2026
Their Majesties The King and Queen, hosted a special reception at St. James’s Palace on the evening of Tuesday 03 February 2026, to honour the vital contributions of people working in local government.
The reception brought together employees from a wide range of frontline services who have shown exceptional commitment to public service and reflect the breadth of roles within local government.
Reece England, Climate Education Officer, had the honour of representing Fermanagh and Omagh District Council at the reception. Reece was further distinguished by being selected as one of just six attendees, from a total of 350 guests, to form a special welcome party, where he had the opportunity to meet and speak to The King and The Queen, the Duchess of Edinburgh and the Duke of Gloucester.

His commitment to innovation and community engagement has strengthened partnerships, broadened environmental awareness and ensure that Council services remain inclusive and accessible to all.”
Speaking after the event, Reece said:
“It was an incredible honour to represent the Council at St James’s Palace and to have the opportunity to meet and speak to The King and The Queen, the Duchess of Edinburgh and the Duke of Gloucester. The work we do in climate education within the Council is truly a team effort. It was a real privilege to represent Council employees and to attend alongside other staff who work so hard to deliver for their local communities day in, day out. It was a once‑in‑a‑lifetime experience and I’m grateful for the opportunity.”
