Positive Ageing Month 2026 Celebrates ‘What’s on Your Doorstep?’
2nd October 2026
Older residents across Fermanagh and Omagh are being encouraged to get involved in Positive Ageing Month 2026 this October, with a packed programme of activities designed to help people stay active, connected and engaged within their local communities.
Organised in partnership with Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, South West Age Partnership and Public Health Agency, this year’s theme, “What’s on Your Doorstep?”, highlights the wide range of services, groups and opportunities available locally to support older people to live well, stay independent and enjoy later life.
Throughout October, participants can enjoy a variety of events including arts and crafts workshops, exercise and yoga classes, walking programmes, tea dances, educational talks, heritage sessions and free senior swimming at Omagh Leisure Complex. A range of practical wellbeing initiatives will also be available, including falls prevention, chronic pain management and financial wellbeing sessions.
The programme will also celebrate the vital contribution older volunteers make to communities, with two special events planned to recognise and thank those who give their time and experience to support others.
As part of the launch, Enniskillen Castle and Strule Arts Centre was illuminated in purple on 1 October to mark the International Day of Older Persons and the beginning of Positive Ageing Month.
Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Debbie Coyle, said:
“I encourage everyone to make the most of Positive Ageing Month and attend as many events as possible. This year’s theme, ‘What’s on Your Doorstep?’, provides an excellent opportunity to discover the wide range of activities, services and organisations that help make later life active, rewarding and fulfilling. The programme offers fantastic opportunities to meet people, strengthen friendships, learn something new and enjoy all that our district has to offer.”
Positive Ageing Month reflects the Council’s ongoing commitment to creating an Age Friendly District where older people feel valued, supported and connected.
