Fermanagh and Omagh District Council recently held a Networking and Information event at the Strule Arts Centre to mark the implementation phase of its PEACEPLUS Local Action Plan.

The event welcomed Elected Members, Delivery Partners, representatives from the Community and Voluntary sector and Council staff, providing an opportunity to connect, share ideas, and explore how the Local Action Plan would positively benefit communities across the district.

With funding of over €5.6 million secured through the PEACEPLUS Programme, the Council, with support from its delivery partners, will deliver 13 projects focused on strengthening relationships, promoting inclusion, and supporting the long-term community wellbeing of residents across the district. Developed through a collaborative co-design process, the Local Action Plan reflects the priorities of the local communities. The Local Action Plan is supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).

Attendees heard of the diverse range of programmes/initiatives available for residents across the district, including free skills development, volunteering opportunities, health and well-being initiatives, youth engagement activities, celebration of cultural awareness initiatives and community-based events.

Speaking at the event, Councillor Barry McElduff, Chair, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council described the Local Action Plan “as a positive step forward in building stronger, more connected communities. The plan creates a wide range of opportunities for people from all backgrounds to come together through shared interests, whether it be in sport, arts, culture or community activity, there is something for everyone”.

Also speaking at event, Councillor Errol Thompson, Chair, Fermanagh and Omagh PEACEPLUS Partnership said;

“I would like to take this opportunity to recognise the vital role of our delivery partners, whose commitment and expertise are key to the success of this programme. I wish you every success in delivering your programmes and look forward to seeing the positive impact and lasting benefits for our local communities”.
