Gortin Playpark

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is delighted to announce the completion of the new Gortin Play Park, creating an attractive and inclusive outdoor space where local children can play, families can spend time together and the wider community can enjoy the outdoors.
The new facility was officially opened on Friday 16 October, with pupils from St Patrick’s PS Gortin joining representatives from the Council and the Fermanagh and Omagh PEACEPLUS Partnership to mark the occasion.

The project has been delivered through the Outdoor Recreational Capital Programme, part of the Fermanagh and Omagh PEACEPLUS Local Action Plan, which will see 10 outdoor community spaces transformed across the district. The programme is supported by PEACEPLUS, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB), with match-funding provided by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.

The Outdoor Recreational Capital Programme is focused on improving shared outdoor spaces across the district, making them more welcoming, accessible and inclusive while encouraging recreation, physical activity and greater community connection.
Gortin Play Park provides a dedicated space for children to enjoy active outdoor play while offering families and the wider community an improved recreational facility at the heart of the village.

Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Debbie Coyle, who attended the opening, said

“It is wonderful to see Gortin Play Park open and ready for local children and families to enjoy. Spaces like this make a real difference within our communities, giving children the freedom to be active, have fun and spend time outdoors.
This investment is about more than providing new play facilities. It is about creating a welcoming place where families can meet, friendships can grow and the community can spend time together. I am delighted to see this project completed and look forward to seeing the park enjoyed for many years ahead.”

Vice Chair of the Fermanagh and Omagh PEACEPLUS Partnership, Ryan Tracey, who also attended the opening, said

“Gortin Play Park is a great example of what the PEACEPLUS Local Action Plan is seeking to achieve through investment in shared community spaces.
By improving places where people can meet, play and enjoy the outdoors together, we are helping to create stronger connections within our communities. It is fantastic to see this investment delivered in Gortin and to know that local children and families now have an enhanced outdoor space that everyone can enjoy.”

The new Gortin Play Park is one of 10 outdoor community spaces being enhanced across the Fermanagh and Omagh district through the PEACEPLUS Local Action Plan. Together, these projects aim to improve access to quality recreational facilities while creating shared and inclusive spaces that encourage people to connect and participate in community life.
