New Exhibition Explores Identity, Belonging and Cultural Memory at Strule Arts Centre
2nd October 2026
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is continuing to support access to high-quality visual arts across the district with the opening of ‘What Remains…’, a new exhibition by artist Anushiya Sundaralingam at Strule Arts Centre.
Now on display in the Strule Gallery, the exhibition explores themes of identity, migration, belonging and cultural memory through an engaging collection of paintings, printmaking, sculpture, textiles and installation work. The exhibition opened on Thursday, 1 October, and runs until Saturday, 1 November. Admission is free and visitors are encouraged to explore the exhibition and engage with the ideas and experiences reflected throughout the collection.
Originally from Sri Lanka and now based in Belfast, Anushiya draws on her personal experiences and cultural heritage to create work that encourages reflection on the stories, memories and connections that shape individuals and communities.
Speaking at the exhibition launch, Vice Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Stephen McCann, said:
“One of the most powerful aspects of art is its ability to encourage conversation and understanding. Through this exhibition, visitors have an opportunity to engage with ideas of culture, memory and belonging, and to consider how our own experiences influence the way we see the world around us.
“As a Council, we are proud to support Strule Arts Centre in bringing exhibitions of this quality to our district. The arts play an important role in enriching our communities, broadening perspectives and providing opportunities for people to engage with new ideas and experiences.”
Alongside her artistic practice, Anushiya has worked extensively with communities and organisations, using creativity as a means of connection, participation and self-expression.
The exhibition forms part of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s ongoing programme of arts and cultural activity through Strule Arts Centre, providing opportunities for residents and visitors to experience a diverse range of contemporary visual arts.
