Strule Arts Centre, Omagh is proud to announce the opening of Colours of Culture, a vibrant new photographic exhibition celebrating Irish and Highland dance traditions, and the district’s diverse cultural heritage. The exhibition, which launched on Thursday 29 May, is now open to the public until Saturday 28 June 2025, with free admission.
Part of a wider programme of Cross Cultural Celebrations, supported by The Executive Office District Council Good Relations Programme (DCGRP) and Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, the exhibition aims to foster greater understanding and appreciation of the district’s diverse cultural heritage.

Colours of Culture features photographs of young dancers showcasing both Irish and Highland dance styles, captured in a mixture traditional and contemporary costume. The images highlight how these forms of cultural expression remain relevant in a modern setting, while honouring their historic roots. Photographs were taken at scenic and culturally significant locations including Crom Estate, Gortin Glens Forest Park, the Ulster American Folk Park, and sites in both Enniskillen and Omagh, highlighting the landscape and cultural richness of the district.

At the exhibition opening, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor John McClaughry, praised the involvement of young people in the project, saying,
“Young people are an important part of the cultural landscape today and in the future. It is for this reason that I am delighted that young people from across the District have been involved in the programme.
Through the art of dance, they have excellently captured Irish and Highland dancing in both traditional and modern contexts, showing how we can all celebrate and share our cultures.
I would like to thank the young people for participating in this project. Beyond gaining an understanding of cultural significance, I hope they enjoyed the experience and feel inspired.”

The exhibition is free and open to all during the Strule Arts Centre’s regular opening hours (Monday – Saturday, 9.30am – 5pm).
