The Fermanagh & Omagh Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP), the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), and local Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) Coordinators recently came together for the annual Neighbourhood Watch Conference, held at the Silverbirch Hotel, Omagh.

The event brought together NHW Coordinators from across all seven District Electoral Areas, representing nearly 100 active NHW schemes throughout the district. The conference provided an invaluable opportunity to share ideas, strengthen connections, and celebrate the commitment of local NHW volunteers. The conference was officially opened by PCSP Chairperson Councillor Thomas O’Reilly, who commended the dedication of the volunteers and the partnership between Fermanagh & Omagh PCSP, the PSNI, and local communities.

Guest speaker Ronan Convery, Senior Consumer Empowerment Officer with the Consumer Council NI, spoke about the rise in scams and deception offences – a concern affecting communities across Northern Ireland – and highlighted how NHW helps to raise awareness and keep residents informed.

Attendees also heard from Chief Inspector Graham Dodds and Inspector Joni Beatty, who reaffirmed the PSNI’s strong support for Neighbourhood Watch initiatives. They emphasised how increased community awareness and visibility help deter criminal activity, and praised NHW Coordinators for providing valuable local intelligence that directly supports effective policing delivery.

The event concluded with a Recognition and Appreciation Ceremony, celebrating several long-serving NHW Coordinators – some who have been involved for more than 20 years – for their outstanding commitment to their neighbours, their close work with local police, and their contribution to safer, stronger communities.

Councillor Thomas O’Reilly, Chairperson of the Fermanagh & Omagh PCSP, praised the event’s success, stating:

“It was fantastic to see people from right across the entire district – from small villages to some of our larger towns – all coming together with one common goal in mind: keeping our communities safe. The conference was a great opportunity to thank our NHW Coordinators for everything they do and to keep building that strong partnership between the PCSP, PSNI, and our local volunteers.”

The Fermanagh & Omagh PCSP and the PSNI encourage residents to consider joining their local NHW Scheme – a vital partnership that helps keep communities safe and informed. For more information, contact: pcsp@fermanaghomagh.com or call 0300 303 1777
