June Climate Change Champion Announced: Mighty Oaks Kids Club, Fintona
25th July 2025
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is proud to announce Mighty Oaks Kids Club as the June Climate Change Champion, recognising their outstanding contribution to environmental education and sustainable living.
Based just outside Fintona, Mighty Oaks Kids Club recently celebrated its first anniversary and has already made a significant impact on both local children and the environment. As a forest school for children aged 4–11, the club offers play-based learning in a high-quality outdoor setting that encourages respect, care, and connection with nature.
Mighty Oaks promotes environmental responsibility through the ethos of ‘leave no trace’, ensuring children understand the importance of reducing waste, reusing materials, and recycling wherever possible. These values are woven into the fabric of daily activities, helping young minds develop a lifelong appreciation for the natural world.
“By encouraging children to connect with nature from an early age, we hope they will carry that respect with them throughout their lives and share it with their families and communities,” said a spokesperson for Mighty Oaks.
The club’s wide range of outdoor activities supports children’s holistic development, nurturing their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth. Outdoor learning is at the heart of Mighty Oaks, offering benefits that extend far beyond the classroom – including improvements in mental health and well-being.
Mighty Oaks Kids Club is a shining example of how early education can align with climate action, and the Council commends them for planting the seeds of environmental awareness in the next generation.
