4th August 2025
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s Labour Market Partnership is proud to launch the Plant Academy – a new, fully funded training initiative designed to prepare local residents for careers in the construction and infrastructure sectors.
Funded by the Department for Communities, Labour Market Partnerships are designed to create targeted employment action plans for Council areas, fostering collaboration to support people into employment.
The Plant Academy, delivered by McKinney Safety Centre Ltd., is open to residents of the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council area, with a particular focus on those who are unemployed, returning to work, or seeking to retrain. The programme provides hands-on, industry-relevant training in high-demand areas, helping participants gain the skills and qualifications needed to secure sustainable employment.
Training includes certification on:
Forward Tipping Dumper
Ride-On Roller
Telehandler
Vice Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Cllr Shirley Hawkes, encouraged local residents to get involved:
“This training programme directly addresses the growing demand for skilled plant machinery operators across our district. With significant construction and infrastructure projects on the horizon, this is a valuable opportunity for people to gain practical skills and secure meaningful employment. The Council remains committed to supporting our residents into work and strengthening the local economy.”
This initiative reflects the Council’s ongoing commitment to supporting local people into employment and boosting economic growth by equipping residents with practical, job-ready skills and industry-recognised qualifications.
Spaces are limited – early registration is advised.
