Fermanagh & Omagh Primary Schools Show Off Road Safety Skills
9th February 2026
All roads led to Enniskillen on Wednesday, 5 February, as P7 pupils from right across the Fermanagh & Omagh District took part in this year’s Primary School Road Safety Quiz.
Supported by the Fermanagh & Omagh Policing Community Safety Partnership (PCSP), this long-running event has been a key feature of the school calendar for over 30 years and continues to grow year on year thanks to the dedication of event organisers, Road Safe NI Charity. Their ongoing commitment to road safety education plays a vital role in helping young people develop lifelong road awareness skills.
Enthusiastic pupils from local primary schools tested their road safety knowledge and general awareness in a fun and interactive setting. Each participating school was represented by a team of four pupils who competed in a challenging table quiz designed to reinforce essential road safety messages while encouraging teamwork and learning.
The quiz consisted of seven rounds of eight questions, covering road safety and general knowledge, including a dedicated round on road signs. After a closely fought competition, the winning teams Jones Memorial Primary School and Enniskillen Model Primary School secured their place in the Northern Ireland Primary School Road Safety Quiz Final.
Davy Jackson, Chairperson of Road Safe NI Charity, welcomed the continued success of this annual event, saying: “We are delighted to see the ongoing enthusiasm for the Primary School Road Safety Quiz. Events like this allow us to engage young people in a positive and memorable way while reinforcing vital road safety messages. The standard of knowledge on display at the Fermanagh & Omagh heat was extremely high.”
PCSP Chairperson, Councillor Thomas O’Reilly, highlighted the importance of initiatives like this in promoting road safety from an early age: “Teaching children about road safety in an interactive and enjoyable environment is essential in helping to keep them safe.
The preparation that pupils put in ahead of the quiz, combined with putting their knowledge to the test on the day, not only reinforces important safety messages but also builds confidence, teamwork, and learning. Fermanagh & Omagh PCSP is proud to support Road Safe NI Charity and congratulates all the pupils and schools who took part.”
Fermanagh & Omagh PCSP, alongside Road Safe NI Charity, extends its thanks to all participating schools, teachers and pupils for their commitment to road safety education. Special thanks also go to local PSNI officers and the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, whose support helped ensure the event was a continued success.
