Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has confirmed a programme of charity and awareness illuminations for May 2026, with Enniskillen Castle and Strule Arts Centre being lit up on selected dates throughout the month.

International Workers’ Day is observed annually on 1 May, recognising the contribution of workers and the ongoing importance of workers’ rights and social justice. Tonight (Thursday 7 May), the buildings will be illuminated in red to coincide with the launch of “Red Flags and Rising Voices”, a book by Jim Quinn, with the illumination also acknowledging International Workers’ Day. You can find out more about IWD at www.internationalworkersday.org #InternationalWorkersDay

Both buildings will be illuminated in blue on Tuesday 12 May to mark International ME Awareness Day, in support of M.E. Support NI. The day recognises the millions of people affected by Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) and related conditions, aiming to raise awareness, challenge misconceptions and promote improved recognition and treatment. More information may be found at www.mesupportni.org #mesupportni

On Sunday 17 May, Council buildings will again be illuminated in blue for World NF Awareness Day, as part of the Shine a Light on NF campaign organised by Nerve Tumours UK. The campaign raises awareness of neurofibromatosis and supports individuals and families living with nerve tumour conditions. Visit www.nervetumours.org.uk/ for more information. #ShineALightOnNF

The final illuminations for May will take place on Friday 22 May, when they will light purple to mark Action for Brain Injury Week, in support of the Child Brain Injury Trust. The week highlights the impact of acquired brain injury and the importance of support for children, families and carers. The Council’s illumination programme provides an opportunity to support charities and awareness campaigns while helping to raise public awareness of a wide range of causes.
