Fermanagh and Omagh District Council – March 2026 Illuminations
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council will illuminate Enniskillen Castle and the Strule Arts Centre throughout March 2026 to mark a number of important awareness days and community celebrations. The buildings will be illuminated from 6pm to midnight.
Sunday 8 March 2026 – Purple for International Women’s Day
The buildings will be illuminated purple to mark International Women’s Day, a global celebration recognising the achievements of women and promoting equality across all aspects of life. The day highlights women’s social, cultural and economic contributions, while encouraging communities to continue striving for inclusion and progress. Saturday 14 March 2026 – Blue for World Young Rheumatic Disease (WORD) Day
Enniskillen Castle and Strule Arts Centre will shine blue to raise awareness of World Young Rheumatic Disease Day, supporting children and young people living with rheumatic and musculoskeletal conditions. The illumination aims to highlight early diagnosis, access to specialist care and the importance of community understanding for families affected. You can learn more at https://wordday.org/
Sunday 15 March 2026 – Teal for International Long Covid Awareness Day
The buildings will glow teal for International Long Covid Awareness Day, recognising those continuing to experience long‑term effects following COVID‑19 infection. The day serves to increase understanding of the condition, promote available support and encourage ongoing research into recovery and treatments. Monday 16 March 2026 – Green for the St Patrick’s Eve Flotilla
Enniskillen Castle will be illuminated green, providing a vibrant backdrop to the St Patrick’s Eve Flotilla, a popular boating event that brings colour and activity to the lough on the evening before St Patrick’s Day. The illumination will enhance the atmosphere as a flotilla of brightly lit vessels moves along the water and visitors gather around the Castle for the start of the festivities which include a live folk-rock band and other entertainment. Tuesday 17 March 2026 – Green for St Patrick’s Day
To mark St Patrick’s Day, Strule Arts Centre will join iconic global landmarks in shining green, joining communities across the District and further afield in celebrating the cultural heritage, traditions and shared stories associated with the festivals happening across Enniskillen and Omagh. Saturday 21 March 2026 – Blue for World Down Syndrome Day
The buildings will be illuminated blue to support World Down Syndrome Day, promoting awareness, inclusion and support for individuals and families. World Down Syndrome Day is marked on the 21st of March- this date is chosen world wide as March is 3rd month hence 3 chromosomes & the 21st as it is the 21st chromosome which has 3 instead of two.
