Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is delighted to announce improvements to visitor welcome signage throughout Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark, a cross-border protected area spanning Fermanagh and Cavan. As part of its ongoing commitment to enhance the visitor experience, identified in the Fermanagh and Omagh Visitor Experience Development Plan – the Council is updating information panels at key locations across the Geopark, which is jointly managed in partnership with Cavan County Council.

The refreshed panels feature a modern design while retaining the important heritage and cultural information that makes each area unique. Over the past year, new signs have been installed in Kesh, Lisnarick, Garrison, Letterbreen, and Belcoo, providing visitors with clear, engaging, and informative content.

Speaking about the initiative, Councillor Barry McElduff, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council said, “These improvements reflect our commitment to delivering a high-quality visitor experience while celebrating the rich heritage of the Geopark.

By enhancing signage, we are making it easier and more attractive for visitors to explore and appreciate the unique landscapes and stories of this special region.”

Geopark officers have worked closely with local community representatives to develop the content for these panels. We extend our sincere thanks to all individuals involved for their time, expertise, and ongoing commitment to preserving our unique landscapes and sharing the stories that make this region so special.  Trevor Armstrong from Letterbreen And Mullaghdun Partnership said,

“It’s been a real privilege to work alongside the Geopark team on these panels. They not only help visitors find their way but also share the stories and heritage that matter most to our communities. We’re proud to see our local history celebrated and look forward to welcoming more people to experience what makes this area so special.”

A further tranche of panels is currently being developed and will be installed throughout the coming year, ensuring that communities and visitors alike benefit from improved wayfinding and interpretation across this internationally recognised UNESCO Global Geopark.
