Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has announced a substantial funding package to support the community led response to assist the most vulnerable as the Coronavirus pandemic continues to affect local communities.

Covid-19 Community Funding will be made available in each of the District Electoral Areas for groups who wish to provide community and social support to vulnerable and isolated persons in the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council area.

Funding is open and applications are being accepted on a rolling basis. The streamlined funding process will ensure a quick turnaround of applications and advance payments to ensure prompt delivery of support in local communities. Applicants are encouraged to work together to maximise funding to address key priorities across geographical areas.

In addition to the Community Funding, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has developed a Covid-19 Coordination Hub. The virtual Hub will respond to requests received from the NI Covid-19 Community Helpline 0808 802 0020 and from the Western Health and Social Care Trust’s Covid-19 Referral Scheme to assist residents who may have become isolated and vulnerable due to the impacts of Coronavirus and the associated mitigation measures. The Coordination Hub will work with the local community and voluntary sector to ensure those most at risk will have access to support services such as food, medication, practical and emotional support.

Welcoming the announcement of the Covid-19 Community Funding and Coordination Hub, the Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Siobhán Currie, said “ the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic has presented challenges for all of us, the like of which haven’t been seen on such a scale certainly in living memory. What is happening in the Fermanagh and Omagh district is a microcosm of what is happening worldwide. However, our strong sense of community is once again clearly evident with the huge number of sports clubs, and community and voluntary organisations offering assistance to those in our community who need it most at this difficult time. I am delighted that the Council has been able to make substantial financial assistance available to these groups to help facilitate their work through a streamlined and straightforward application process. The COVID-19 Co-ordination Hub will also ensure that those residents who feel isolated due to the impact of the coronavirus have the assistance and support which they need at this time.”
