Diana McChesney Named Community Climate Champion for July
11th September 2025
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is proud to announce that Diana McChesney has been recognised as July’s Community Climate Champion, in honour of her outstanding commitment to protecting the environment and inspiring positive action across her community.
Known for her tireless dedication, Diana continually demonstrates what it means to live by climate-friendly principles. She devotes her time to organising litter picks, redistributing surplus food to prevent waste, and encouraging reuse through her popular Fermanagh Freecycle Facebook page – an initiative that has helped countless items find a new purpose rather than ending up in landfill.
Her efforts have inspired many others to take small but impactful steps towards sustainability. From neighbours collecting litter on daily walks to households rethinking what they throw away, Diana’s leadership has created a ripple effect throughout the community.
Speaking about the award, Diana said:
“I’m just trying to leave as light a footprint as possible for my children to see that they can leave no trace and help the planet they grow in. They’re already taking this on board in many ways, which gives me pride to see as they’re still so young.”
Diana’s work is entirely voluntary, motivated by care for the environment and her community, and serves as a powerful example of grassroots climate action.
