8th May 2025
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council will continue its commitment to community engagement and awareness by illuminating Enniskillen Castle and the Strule Arts Centre, Omagh, to support charitable causes, national awareness days, and local milestones throughout May 2025.
Thursday 8 May 2025 – VE Day 80
In partnership with the Inniskillings Museum, buildings will be illuminated blue (blue – recognised as a symbol of peace and hope) to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day. The illumination will honour the local men and women who served and sacrificed during the Second World War.
Monday 12 May 2025 – Foster Care Fortnight 2025
Council buildings will be lit turquoise to support Foster Care Fortnight, running from 12–25 May. This campaign by The Fostering Network celebrates foster carers and encourages more people to consider fostering. With increasing numbers of children coming into care, the campaign highlights the flexibility of fostering and the vital need for more carers. The initiative is supported locally by HSC Northern Ireland Foster Care.
Saturday 17 May 2025 – World NF Awareness Day
To raise awareness of neurofibromatosis (NF), a group of genetic conditions affecting the nervous system, the Council will light buildings blue. In collaboration with Nerve Tumours UK, this initiative highlights the support available to the 26,500 people in the UK affected by NF, including clinical guidance, helplines, and community support.
Monday 19 May 2025 – Dementia Action Week
The buildings will glow purple to support Dementia Action Week, running from 19–25 May. Coordinated by the Western Health and Social Care Trust, this awareness week promotes understanding, early diagnosis, and support for individuals living with dementia and their families.
Friday 23 May 2025 – Acquired Brain Injury Awareness Week
In support of Headway and the Child Brain Injury Trust, buildings will be illuminated purple for Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Awareness Week. The campaign, themed “On a Good Day…”, draws attention to the impact of brain injuries on children and adults.
