Disability Awareness Week Launch (22.11.22)

International Day for People with Disabilities is marked across the world every year on 3 December. In celebration of this, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is working in partnership with Derry City and Strabane District Council to deliver a week-long programme of activities running from Saturday 3 December to Friday 9 December.

The programme which has been funded by the Public Health Agency, has attracted the support of a wide range of partner organisations including the National Trust, Guide Dogs NI, Headway – the Brain Injury Association, Mencap, Mae Murray Foundation, RNID, Disability Action, Shopmobility Enniskillen & Omagh, WHSCT, CYPSP and Angel Eyes NI.

Throughout the week and further into December, there will be a range of information sessions, training events, talks and engaging craft workshops.

Launching the Programme, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Barry McElduff, said:

“Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to working in partnership with key support organisations and charities to improve the quality of life of all the people of the district.

As Chair of the Council, I am delighted to launch the programme of activities to celebrate DisAbility Awareness Week 2022.

I met some great people at the launch and I enjoyed their company and participation very much.

We are grateful once again for the funding provided by the Public Health Agency to enable us to support such an engaging programme.  We are also delighted team up with our colleagues in Derry City and Strabane District Council and partner organisations to deliver the range of events and activities which have been planned.

I would encourage as many people as possible to join the events, either online or physically.  It is important that we all try to achieve the ‘Take 5 Steps to Wellbeing – Give, Be Active, Connect, Keep Learning and Take Notice’. These events throughout December will help us achieve these steps.”
