Council encourages residents to ‘start the conversation’ during Talk Money Week
3rd November 2025
Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is supporting Talk Money Week (3–7 November), a UK-wide campaign led by the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) to encourage open conversations about money and improve financial wellbeing.
This year’s theme, ‘Start the Conversation’, highlights how even small chats – about budgeting, saving, pensions, or teaching children about money – can lead to better financial decisions and reduced stress.
Throughout the week, the Council will share daily tips, resources, and links to local and regional support services via its social media channels. These include help with debt, credit use, saving, and planning for retirement.
Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Barry McElduff, said:
“You are not alone, and it is not something to be embarrassed about.
Omagh Independent Advice Services and Community Advice Fermanagh, supported by the Council (FODC) offer free, confidential advice – including debt support.
This week, try to ‘start the conversation’ that could improve your financial wellbeing.”
Oliver Morley, Chief Executive of MaPS, added:
“Talking about money with friends, family and children – or experts if necessary – can help you feel more confident and give you greater financial resilience. That’s why, as part of our annual Talk Money Week campaign, we’re calling for you to ‘start the conversation’. We know it can be difficult to know where to start and so we have all the ideas and information you’ll need on our website, along with the tools to get you started.
“Whether it’s something small, like a quick chat with your partner about budgeting, or something bigger, like making an informed long-term decision, this is the chance for everyone to get involved and start talking about money, together.”
Talk Money Week is supported by banks, government departments, Health Trusts, and charities including Advice NI and Money and Mental Health.
