Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Cllr Barry McElduff, hosted a reception at the Grange, Omagh on Wednesday 21 January 2026 to celebrate Mid Tyrone Bowling’s victory in the Over-55s League.

Speaking at the event, the Council Chair said:

”As Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, I am delighted to welcome you all to the Grange for this reception celebrating Mid Tyrone Bowling’s victory in the Over-55s League.

Mid Tyrone’s Over-55s team is made up of members from clubs across the area. It includes both men and women and provides an opportunity to bring people together, develop their skills, and demonstrate what can be achieved when a team works together to thrive.

In 2023, the Irish Indoor Bowling Association, Mid Tyrone’s governing body, introduced a competition for players aged 55 and over. This competition is open to Zones across Ireland, and in 2025, Mid Tyrone entered two teams: Mid Tyrone Red and Mid Tyrone Yellow.

Both teams displayed incredible heart and commitment, delivering performances that made the Mid Tyrone Zone proud. While Mid Tyrone Yellow unfortunately did not qualify for the later stages, their effort and determination throughout were commendable. Mid Tyrone Red, meanwhile, advanced to the final of the Over‑55’s League, held at the Baker Bowling Stadium on Saturday, 8 November. After a hard-fought semi-final victory over South Tyrone by five shots, they secured their place in the final against Mid Antrim, where they triumphed by 14 shots to claim the winners’ cup, sponsored by the Mid Ulster Zone.

This is an amazing accomplishment, one that required strong teamwork, commitment, and focus. Every hour of training, every obstacle overcome, and every moment of effort led to this success.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to providing opportunities for inclusive leisure, recreation, and sporting activities that promote social inclusion and improve health outcomes. At the heart of this vision is the community, and Mid Tyrone Bowling plays a vital role by offering people the chance to engage in sport with a positive and competitive spirit.

On behalf of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, and on my own behalf, I would like to once again congratulate everyone involved in Mid Tyrone Bowling on your well-deserved victory. You have not only represented the Mid Tyrone area with pride but have also been outstanding ambassadors for the sport. I wish you continued success in the future and look forward to seeing more victories for Mid Tyrone Zone Bowling.
