Cllr Coyle statement

The Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Debbie Coyle, has welcomed today’s Court of Appeal decision on the A5 Western Transport Corridor project.

Speaking following the judgement, Councillor Coyle said:

“I warmly welcome today’s Court of Appeal decision, which clears the way for the A5 Western Transport Corridor to progress. This is a significant and positive outcome for our District and the wider area, and for all those who have campaigned tirelessly for this vital infrastructure project.
At the heart of this scheme is the need to save lives. My thoughts are with all those families who have lost loved ones, and those whose lives have been forever changed as a result of accidents on the A5.

I would like to recognise the sustained lobbying efforts of the A5/N2 Cross Border Council Committee, in which Fermanagh and Omagh District Council works alongside Derry City and Strabane District Council, Mid Ulster District Council, Monaghan County Council and Donegal County Council in support of this strategically important project.

I also wish to acknowledge the work of the Enough is Enough campaign, together with representatives from the GAA and wider sporting community, whose steadfast campaigning has helped maintain public focus on the importance and need for the A5.

The A5 is critical not only in improving road safety, but also in enhancing connectivity, supporting economic growth and creating opportunities for businesses, residents and visitors across our District and the wider region.

Following years of delay, I hope today’s judgement allows meaningful progress to be made once and for all. Fermanagh and Omagh District Council remains fully committed to supporting the delivery of this critical project.”
