Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Debbie Coyle, recently hosted a reception at the Townhall, Enniskillen, to recognise local resident Christopher Waldie on receiving a Royal Humane Society Award on Vellum for his courage and selfless actions in saving a life.

Speaking at the reception the Chair said:

It is my pleasure, as Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, to welcome you to the Townhall as we recognise and celebrate the actions of Christopher Waldie, who is being presented with a Royal Humane Society Award on Vellum.

This award acknowledges a remarkable act of courage and selflessness. While carrying out his work near Castle Lough on Upper Lough Erne last November, Christopher heard a cry for help and, without hesitation, went to investigate. On discovering a man in difficulty in the water, he acted quickly and decisively, calling for assistance before entering the water himself and bringing the casualty to safety.

Thanks to Christopher’s actions, professionalism and composure under pressure, a life was saved. His response undoubtedly reflects the skills gained through his role as a Coastguard Rescue Officer, but equally it speaks to his character, his sense of responsibility and his willingness to help others in their time of need.

It is fitting that Christopher’s bravery and dedication are being recognised by the Royal Humane Society. His actions serve as an inspiration and are a reminder of the difference one person can make.
